Huntington W.VA Shooting Today: Multiple Overnight Shootings Leave Five Injured

Five people were hospitalized following three separate shooting incidents that unfolded overnight in Huntington, according to local authorities.

Police Chief Phil Watkins said officers first responded around 11:39 p.m. to reports of gunfire at Corbin Park on Vernon Street. The incident reportedly stemmed from a dispute, leaving a juvenile male with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A suspect was taken into custody and charged with malicious wounding.

A second shooting occurred at approximately 2:11 a.m. in the 800 block of 7th Avenue. Officers in the area heard gunshots and discovered a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition. Authorities say this incident also originated from a verbal and physical altercation, and a suspect has since been identified and charged.

While investigating that scene, officers heard additional gunfire around 2:54 a.m. coming from a nearby alley. Three individuals were found with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police believe this third incident involved a dispute among multiple individuals and remains under investigation by the Criminal Investigations Bureau.

Just minutes later, at approximately 2:58 a.m., officers heard further gunshots in the area and observed a male fleeing behind a business in the 800 block of 6th Avenue. After a brief pursuit, the individual was apprehended and charged with wanton endangerment and fleeing.

Captain Ryan Bentley stated that the shootings were not random acts of violence but rather the result of disputes between individuals. He added that officers acted swiftly under dangerous and rapidly evolving conditions, leading to multiple arrests and preventing further harm.

The Huntington Police Department has since increased patrols in the affected areas and is urging anyone with information to come forward.
