Patrick Ramsey Obituary, Bartow County, GA Boating Accident: Georgia Boater Has Sadly Died

A tragic boating accident on Lake Allatoona claimed the life of 63-year-old Patrick “Pat” Ramsey of Dallas, Georgia, late Friday evening near Allatoona Landing. According to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Ramsey was the sole occupant of a bass boat that collided with a breakwater at approximately 9:25 p.m. on April 25, 2026.

Emergency responders from the Bartow County Fire Department and Georgia DNR game wardens arrived within minutes of the report. Ramsey was found unresponsive aboard the vessel and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities confirmed that no other boats were involved and no additional injuries were reported.

The Georgia DNR’s Law Enforcement Division is leading the investigation, with support from local agencies. The boat has been recovered and impounded for inspection, and investigators are examining possible contributing factors including speed, visibility, lighting conditions, and mechanical performance. Toxicology results and a full accident reconstruction remain pending.

Patrick Ramsey, known affectionately as “Pat,” was a longtime resident of Paulding County and a well-known member of the local fishing community. A retired maintenance supervisor, he spent much of his time on Lake Allatoona, a place friends say he knew “like the back of his hand.” He was an active member of the Dallas Bass Anglers Club and was widely respected for his emphasis on boating safety.

Friends and fellow anglers remember him as calm, experienced, and generous with his knowledge. He often reminded others to check their safety equipment before launching and was known for his deep respect for the water and those who shared it.

Ramsey is survived by his wife of 38 years, Linda Ramsey; two daughters; and four grandchildren. His family has requested privacy as they grieve this unexpected loss.

A small memorial has been placed at Allatoona Landing, where friends and fellow boaters have gathered to pay their respects. The Dallas Bass Anglers Club has announced plans to dedicate an upcoming tournament in his honor, with proceeds supporting boating safety education and awareness.

Authorities are using the incident as a reminder of the dangers of nighttime navigation, particularly around fixed structures such as breakwaters, which can be difficult to see in low-light conditions.

The Georgia DNR continues to urge boaters to wear life jackets, reduce speed at night, and ensure proper navigation lighting at all times.

Patrick “Pat” Ramsey will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and lifelong outdoorsman whose passion for fishing and boating left a lasting mark on those who knew him.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his family, friends, and the Lake Allatoona community.
